Installing an IKEA kitchen
Bought a flat-pack kitchen yourself? We build it and install it. What is different, what it costs and what we check before we start.
Can you install my IKEA kitchen?
Yes. We build every cabinet from the boxes, hang the kitchen level, fit the worktop and connect the appliances. We also do what the IKEA service leaves out, such as an extra circuit at € 139,15 each including 21% VAT. Flat-pack takes more hours, so we work out the assembly before you agree.
The booking calendar is in Dutch. Write "English" after your name and we call you in English.
Updated on
You bought a kitchen yourself and it arrives in boxes. We assemble the cabinets, hang them level, fit the worktop and connect the appliances. We do that for kitchens from any supplier, also when we did not sell it. In fact we do not sell kitchens at all. Installing them is our trade.
What IKEA does not do, and we do
The IKEA installation service fits the cabinets, but its own terms leave a number of jobs out. We do those:
- Taking out the old kitchen and taking it away.
- Electrics. An extra circuit for induction, the oven or the dishwasher, and moving sockets. See plumbing and electrics.
- Plumbing beyond the siphon. Moving water and drains when the sink goes somewhere else.
- A stone, composite or ceramic worktop. At IKEA that goes through a separate partner. We set the cabinets so the worktop fits and arrange the measuring and fitting.
- Appliances from other brands. We connect any brand.
What is different about a flat-pack kitchen
A kitchen from a kitchen shop comes off the lorry pre-assembled: cabinets closed, hinges in, drawers in. A flat-pack kitchen comes flat. Every cabinet has to be built before anything can go on the wall.
- Every cabinet is built on site. Base, side panels, back panel, hinges, drawers, fronts.
- The whole frame hangs from one rail. If that rail is not level, your whole kitchen is crooked. There is no second chance without taking everything down again.
- The fixing depends on your wall. In concrete and sand-lime brick we drill. In plasterboard we look for the frame behind it.
- There is a lot of cardboard. Expect a pile of boxes the size of the kitchen itself. We take it away.
Overall, a flat-pack kitchen takes more fitting hours than a pre-assembled kitchen of the same length. How many more depends on the number of cabinets and drawers, not on the metres. You hear it when we assess the job, not afterwards on the bill.

What it costs
We price the assembly per job, based on what we see when we assess it. The items around it have fixed prices. Every amount comes from our own records.
| What | Incl. 21% VAT | Excl. VAT | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Connection kit, extended | € 199,65 | € 165 | Siphon, drain, sealant, fixings, electrical and extraction parts. The basic kit (€ 114,95) is only sealant, siphon and fixings |
| Moving pipes within the kitchen area | € 1.324,95 | € 1.095 | When the tap, drain or sockets move |
| Drilling and chasing in concrete or stone | € 423,50 | € 350 | With a concrete or sand-lime brick wall |
| Extra circuit from the meter cupboard, each | € 139,15 | € 115 | Usually two or three |
| Call-out charge | € 72,60 | € 60 | Once per job |
We always include the connection kit in the quote. Otherwise it ends up on the final invoice anyway, and we would rather show it now. As a private customer you pay the amount including 21% VAT. All rates are on our price page.
How long does it take to install an IKEA kitchen?
For a pre-assembled kitchen we count eight metres per day with two fitters. An IKEA kitchen comes flat, so building every cabinet comes on top. How long that takes depends on the number of cabinets and drawers, not on the metres. We work it out when we assess the job, and you hear it before you pick a date.
Is a stone or composite worktop coming? Then it is two visits: first the cabinets, then the worktop. That worktop can only be measured once the cabinets are in place. Read more about materials on replacing worktops.
We check the delivery before we start
The morning starts with unpacking and counting everything against your order list. Cabinets, fronts, legs, plinths, rail, hinges. If it all matches, we carry on. If a cabinet or a worktop is missing, we call you straight away and we do not start halfway. Working on with half a delivery means a second trip, and somebody always pays for that.
When the order list is not right
It happens. Too few plinths, the wrong legs, a rail twenty centimetres short, no cover strip for the back panel. The order list is your responsibility: you put it together yourself or had it put together in the store.
We do not go to the store to make a complaint on your behalf. What we do: write down what is missing, with quantities and the article numbers we can read on the boxes. Then you reorder everything in one go instead of three times in a row.
We do this
- Build the cabinets and adjust the fronts
- Set the rail level and hang the cabinets
- Fit the worktop, cut it out and seal it
- Build in and connect the appliances
- Take the cardboard and packaging away
We do not do this
- Make the order list for you
- Complain to the store or reorder parts
- Pay for parts up front or bring them along
- Carry on with half a delivery
Worktop and appliances
We cut a laminate or wooden worktop to size on site, including the cut-outs for the sink and the hob. A stone or composite worktop is measured by the supplier after the cabinets are in, and fitted later. Two visits, then. There is no way round that, and we say so when we plan.
We connect the appliances ourselves. Switching from gas to induction? See gas to induction. If the tap and drain move, that belongs to plumbing and electrics.
A flat-pack kitchen is not a lesser kitchen. It takes more hours to build, which makes the price gap with a pre-assembled kitchen smaller than the brochure suggests.

Questions
Do you install kitchens I bought somewhere else?
Yes. We install kitchens from any supplier, including flat-pack kitchens you ordered yourself.
We do not sell kitchens, so we have no preference for a brand. We do ask for the order list in advance, so we know how many cabinets need building.
Does a flat-pack kitchen cost more to install?
Yes. Every cabinet has to be built on site, and that takes hours a pre-assembled kitchen does not need.
The difference is in the number of cabinets and drawers, not in the metres. We work it out when we assess the job and put it in the quote as one amount.
What if a cabinet or part is missing?
Then we call you straight away and do not start the kitchen halfway.
We note what is missing with quantity and article number, so you can reorder it in one go. Complaining to the store is up to you: that is your purchase agreement, not ours.
Does the wall have to be suitable for the hanging rail?
The rail has to be fixed into concrete, sand-lime brick or the metal frame behind plasterboard.
If there is only plasterboard without a frame in that spot, we first put a wooden batten behind it. We see that when we assess the job, not on the day itself.
Do you connect the appliances too?
Yes, including the hob, oven, cooker hood, dishwasher and fridge.
An induction hob needs its own circuit. If there is none, that adds € 139,15 per circuit including 21% VAT, and sometimes a new fuse box.
Does the IKEA installation service do the electrics?
No. According to IKEA's own terms, electrics, plumbing beyond the siphon, removing the old kitchen and stone worktops are not included. We do those jobs, as part of the same installation.
