Kitchen installation in Amstelveen

In Amstelveen the problem is usually in the fuse box, not in the kitchen. Six of our thirty job sheets here were about electrics: an extra group, a heavier connection, a fuse box that was full. That is the highest share of any town we work in.

It is no coincidence. Much of Amstelveen is apartments, and an apartment from the sixties or seventies often has a fuse box designed for a gas cooker and a fridge. Not for induction, an oven, a dishwasher and a boiling-water tap at the same time.

Where we work in Amstelveen

Most of our visits are in Westwijk, followed by Bankras-Kostverloren and Elsrijk. Three very different neighbourhoods.

Westwijk was built from the nineties onwards. Straight walls, level floors, measurements that add up. A kitchen here usually goes in within one day.

Bankras-Kostverloren is sixties and seventies, with many gallery and walk-up flats. Here it is often about the lift, the fuse box and a drain in an awkward place.

Elsrijk is pre-war. Lovely houses, but not a single wall is square, and the kitchen was rarely built for it.

First the fuse box, then the kitchen

Switching from gas to induction, or adding an oven and a dishwasher? This order saves money:

1. Have someone look in your fuse box before you order the kitchen. Not after.
2. Count how many groups are free and whether each group has its own residual current device.
3. Check whether the main connection is single-phase or three-phase. On a single phase of 25 amps you cannot switch everything on at once.
4. Only then order your appliances.

We do this as standard when we measure up, and we photograph your fuse box so you can see it yourself. If a group is needed, we lay it from the fuse box. If the whole fuse box needs replacing, we can do that too. See plumbing and electrics and gas to induction.

Living in an apartment with an owners' association (VvE)? Check in advance whether the house rules say anything about drilling into load-bearing walls or working on the shared riser pipes. That saves trouble later.

A kitchen to the sixth floor

In Amstelveen's flats, the lift is almost always the measurement that counts. A two-metre-forty cabinet run does not fit in. So when we plan, we ask for the lift size and whether there is a goods lift you need to book. If it does not fit, we take the cabinets apart and reassemble them upstairs. That costs an extra hour per kitchen, and you know it in advance instead of on the day.

And the old kitchen? We take it with us. Removal is a separate line on the quote, so you can take it out if you want to do it yourself.

You buy your kitchen wherever you like. We install it. A large part of our work is exactly that: someone buys a kitchen, takes installation out of the quote and calls us.
